Delivering Community Arts and Culture Programs in Central Australia

Long term goal: to build community capacity for the arts to be a part of young people's way of life.

How we do it:

  • Engaging professional artists to collaborate with communities in creating art.
  • Delivering programs at a "grass roots" level in consultation with Community Partners & Collaborators.
  • Producing excellent art & long term community development outcomes: cultural, social & economic.
  • Building community capacity to express and celebrate cultural identity.

New Aerosol Artwork at Power and Water's Milner Road Pump Station

“Power and Water Corporation has a commitment and responsibility to the environment and the community which we take very seriously. We have a number of assets around town which can be used to advantage to display Contemporary Youth Arts. There is a lot of resistance and negativity in the community surrounding the confusion between youth aerosol art and vandalism; we do not support vandalism.

Power and Water Corporation is proud of the work the InCite crew has created on the Milner Rd Pump Station and consider the work an example of top quality, contemporary youth art.

We value the contribution from these young people and are proud to promote this art form into the community.”

"Desert Sand Culture" Dance Workshops

NAISDA Graduates Katie Leslie and Shari Togo are again returning (third time in 2009) to Willowra, Nyirrpi and Yuendumu in the October as dance artists and mentors for ‘Desert Sand Culture’. This hip hop music and dance mentoring project is a joint effort between InCite Youth Arts Inc and the Mt Theo Program (Warlpirri Youth Development Aborginal Corporation). Leslie and Togo first visited Yuendumu in 2008 as part of the pilot program for this partnership. Earlier this year in March and again in June /July ‘Desert Sand Culture’ also saw many young dancers engage in dance workshops with Leslie and Togo held in Willowra and Nyirrpi. Mt Theo and the Warlpiri young dancers are again enjoying the talents and generosity offered by Leslie and Togo's in sharing their dance skills.
